2005 US Figure Skating Championships in Portland, Oregon
2005 US Figure Skating Championships were the national figure skating championships of the United States for the 2004-05 season. Its results determined the skaters who would qualify for the 2005 World Championships, 2005 Four Continents Championships, and 2005 World Junior Championships, in addition to influencing the selection process for the 2005-06 Grand Prix and 2005-06 Junior Grand Prix series. It was held at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon for the novice, junior, and senior skaters, and at the Northwest Arena in Jamestown, New York for the juvenile and intermediate skaters.
Ladies' podium from left to right: Jennifer Kirk, Michelle Kwan, Kimmie Meissner, and Sasha Cohen
Michelle Kwan won the ladies event, receiving four 6.0s in the process. This is Kwan's ninth ladies title, tying the record with Maribel Vinson Owen.
Kimmie Meissner attempted a triple Axel in her performance. Many media gave her credit for it, but as of Sunday morning there was no word if USFSA would formally ratify it. It appeared to us in the performance and in the replay that the jump was pre-rotated on the takeoff (a big 1/4 turn skid entering) and cheated more than 1/4 turn on the landing. So we call the jump more than 1/2 turn cheated, even though she came a lot closer than several of the men this week. The first (and only from our point of view) U.S. lady to land a triple Axel in competition was Tonya Harding in 1991.
Johnny Weir
Johnny Weir won the Men's event, successfully defending his title. Just 7 more to go to catch up to Kwan!
US FIGURE SKATING CORONAVIRUS STATEMENT REGARDING EVENTS, CLUB PROGRAMS
Dear Members,
As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic affects our everyday lives, U.S. Figure Skating wants to assure you that the health and well-being of our athletes, members and figure skating community continues to be paramount.
As many of the nation’s public and private school systems, businesses and other entities have elected to take a “pause,” U.S. Figure Skating canceled on Friday all its national programs and events through mid-April (click here). Furthermore, U.S. Figure Skating strongly recommends that all club events and programs (competitions, test sessions, shows, etc.) are canceled or postponed through at least April 12. U.S. Figure Skating will continue to evaluate this rapidly evolving situation and provide updates as warranted. Qualifying procedures for such programs as Excel and Solo Dance also will be reevaluated during this time, as well as a decision on the status of Governing Council scheduled April 29 – May 2 in Las Vegas.
While we understand how these disruptions affect our figure skating community, the health and well-being of our figure skating community is the highest priority. With that in mind, please review these CDC recommendations to minimize the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19):
Stay home if you are sick; do not come to the ice rink and club.
Avoid getting closer than 6 feet to anyone coughing or sneezing.
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds (sing the “ABC song”) or use hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol. (This is especially important after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.)
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Cover your mouth with a tissue or inside your elbow if you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash, and then wash your hands.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces regularly.
Monitor the WHO and CDC websites for travel advisories and follow their recommendations.

If you have any questions, please email info@usfigureskating.org. As this is an evolving situation, we will communicate any updates via e-blasts and in the NEWS section of our website – www.usfigureskating.org/news
These are trying times, but we have every confidence that our figure skating community will continue to support one another as we navigate these uncharted waters. We want to thank each of you for your diligence and understanding and look forward to when a sense of normalcy returns.
Sincerely,
Anne Cammett

Winter Skate-tacular at Klamath Ice Sports
Klamath Ice Sports 18th Annual Figure Skating Spectacular, WINTER SKATE-TACULAR, took place on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bill Collier Ice Arena. This is a world class exhibition that celebrates the beauty, grace, and athleticism of figure skating.
This year's ice show was co-directed and choreographed by Autumn Morin and Joe Gorecki, professional skaters and coaches from the Portland area, where they both teach and coach all skating levels. Joe Gorecki will also perform in the show.
Headlining this year's event are two-time U.S. ladies champion, Alissa Czisny, two-time U.S. pair champions, Alexa and Chris Knierim, who are husband and wife, two-time U.S. ladies silver medalist, Polina Edmunds, and the up-and-coming U.S. junior ice dance team of Oona and Gage Brown, who are brother and sister. Also featured a group of talented competitive skaters from the Portland area, including Samuel Mindra, Kaizen Oudom, and Grace Clifford. Jason Graetz, a Canadian comedy skater, was also featured together with a group of local and regional skaters. All of the featured skaters are appearing in Klamath Falls for the first time.
Klamath had a wonderful show - thanks to all that made it a success. Coaches and skaters from Carousel Sherwood FSC and Portland ISC traveled down to participate and direct the show!
